Sandy causes rash of cancellations

October 26,2012 North Myrtle Beach, SC -  The National Hurricane Center advisory pegs Sandy as a hurricane with tropical storm winds that extend up to 275 miles from its center. Local WPDE forecaster, Ed Piotrowski  advises that Sandy is nearly twice as large as the usual hurricane and effects will be felt far from the center when it passes 300 miles off the coast.  He calls for rain, over 2 inches, wind gusts to 40 mph and surf waves 6 to 8 feet with seas off shore up to 25 feet - all this happening late tonight.

As a result, some local events have been canceled or venues changed.

Pat Dowling, spokesman for the City of North Myrtle Beach, reports that the Endless Summer Festival scheduled for October 27 has been cancelled.  However, the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce has decided to proceed with the entertainment portion of the festival on October 27 but with a change of venue. The OD Pavilion, 91 South Ocean Blvd., North Myrtle Beach, has agreed to host the bands beginning at 12:30 p.m. The Marsha Morgan Band will take the stage at 12:30 p.m. with the Carolina Breakers following at 2:30 p.m. The entertainment is free but food and beverages will be available for purchase. Festival t-shirts will also be sold at the afternoon concert and at the Chamber’s Visitors Center in the days following the festival.

Also Dowling reports Howl-O-Scream, originally scheduled for October 27 at McLean Park in North Myrtle Beach, has been moved to October 31, 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., in McLean Park.
