October 26,2012 North Myrtle Beach, SC - The National Hurricane Center advisory pegs Sandy as a hurricane with tropical storm winds that extend up to 275 miles from its center. Local WPDE forecaster, Ed Piotrowski advises that Sandy is nearly twice as large as the usual hurricane and effects will be felt far from the center when it passes 300 miles off the coast. He calls for rain, over 2 inches, wind gusts to 40 mph and surf waves 6 to 8 feet with seas off shore up to 25 feet - all this happening late tonight.
As a result, some local events have been canceled or venues changed.
Pat Dowling, spokesman for the City of North Myrtle Beach, reports that the Endless Summer Festival scheduled for October 27 has been cancelled.
