Serious about golf –check out GNCGA

August 23, 2012 – The Great White Shark, golfer and businessman Greg Norman, opened the second Greg Norman Champions Golf Academy (GNCGA) in the area Tuesday.  Located at Barefoot Golf Resort's driving range, the new 9,500 square foot facility along with the facility at Long Bay is designed to prepare young players for collegiate golf with a full-time nine month program, a five day junior summer camp, tour player training programs, and one, two and three day golf schools.

The Barefoot facility includes three indoor training bays, two classrooms, a 1,750 square foot gym with Cybex equipment, 52,000 square feet of practice greens and bunkers, 100,800 square feet of practice tees, three covered indoor/outdoor hitting bays  and, of course, the adjacent signature Norman, Love, Fazio and Dye courses.

To get the quality of instruction a golfer might want, he or she must be willing to part with a few dollars.   The full time nine month program is over $40,000; the five day junior summer camp over $1,100; the tour players program begins at $7,200 and 3% of royalties; the eight month post graduate program starts at $43,000 and the adult golf school is priced from $200 an hour to a three day school for $1,700.

Norman's investment in the area has been steady. Located near the facility in Barefoot Landing is the 13,000 sq ft, 164 seat Greg Norman Australian Grille, a fine dining restaurant that has won awards including those from Wine Spectator Magazine and Golf Digest Magazine. The restaurant opened in 1999.  The Long Bay GNCGA facility opened in 2008 and four years later the Barefoot facility.

Greg Norman is one of the most successful golfers in the world having had five years winning more that a $1 million on the U.S. PGA Tour and the firs to surpass $10 million in career earnings.

A ground breaking Monday brought out North Myrtle Beach Mayor Marilyn Hatley and City Manager Mike Mahaney to welcome the opening of the GNCGA facility.
