First Annual Community Prayer Breakfast

FEBRUARY 26,2010 NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC - North Myrtle Beach, SC, Mayor Marilyn Hatley today announced the first Community Prayer Breakfast presented by the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at J. Bryan Floyd Community Center, 1030 Possum Trot Road, from 7:30 – 8:45 a.m.  The community is invited to attend this special, non-denominational event, hosted by the mayor and city council, to appreciate and re-affirm the city’s continuing dependence on God and to share the importance of prayer in the city’s life.

Reservations by Saturday, March 13, are encouraged by calling the Chamber at (843) 281-2662, Ext. 33, or by email to charlene@northmyrtlebeachchamber.com.  There is no charge for the continental breakfast.  Donations are welcomed, and patron opportunities are still available.

Mayor Hatley stated, “North Myrtle Beach now joins thousands of sister cities across America in celebrating its spiritual heritage.  I want the Community Prayer Breakfast to become a regular, significant spring ceremony, along with the National Day of Prayer in May to enhance and encourage prayer for our elected leadership and business community, particularly in challenging times.  Each year we will ask for abundance and well-being for the upcoming visitor season as well as in our daily lives.”

Chamber President and CEO, Marc Jordan added, “We look forward to providing an annual gathering for our community where people can come together, develop relationships and promote unity in our city.”

This is not a political event.  The first Continental Congress called for a National Day of Prayer in 1775, and Congress established National Day of Prayer as an annual event by joint resolution signed by President Truman in 1952. People from all 50 states and all theological and philosophical faiths are encouraged to join their neighbors in this ongoing, historic call to pray.

“We are delighted that Pastor John Kassouf of Risen Christ Lutheran Church & School will be presiding at the inaugural North Myrtle Beach Community Prayer breakfast, along with other ministerial leaders,” Mayor Hatley added.

Musical inspiration will be provided by Greg Rowles, host of Alabama Theater, and Reverend Ronnie Nichols, owner of New Way Properties, North Myrtle Beach.

In honor of this first Community Prayer Breakfast, a special invitation from Mayor Hatley and the city council has been extended to all past mayors, or family representatives, to attend and be recognized for their years of public service.

For more information and patron opportunities, contact the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce at (843) 281-2662.
