Friday's meeting between highway officials from both Carolinas concerning the proposed interstate highway 73 is an important one. Transportation officials from South and North Carolina will attempt to hammer out an agreement on the route of the interstate. The meeting will take place here on the Grand Strand at the Kingston Plantation.
A primary issue is the completion of interstate 73 between the two Carolinas.

A recent incident in front of the North Myrtle Beach city hall has illustrated the effectiveness of trained police dogs. Two Public safety officers of the canine unit were speaking near the entrance of the city hall and one of the canines was with them. The dog became agitated and went to a nearby car, where a large bag of marijuana was found. The two men in the car were arrested, and a man who had gone inside the city hall to pay a traffic ticket was also taken into custody. Officer Dave Capps says police dogs are highly effective when it comes to drug searches.

North Myrtle Beach City government is moving forward with plans to furnish city water to the residents along the Little River Neck Road between the Tidewater residential area and the city limits to the south. Residents in the area have long complained of poor quality and discolored drinking water, but county officials had failed to help them. North Myrtle Beach officials say once grant money is in place for the project, the net cost to city taxpayers will be zero. And there may be a side benefit for the city. Areas around the Cherry Grove Marsh that have been polluted by contaminated ground water may be easier to get cleaned up once the water and sewer lines are in place.
